ACTION ALERT: Support Justice for Survivors

You Can Support AB 1497!

You may recall that Free to Thrive worked with a statewide Justice for Survivors Coalition to help pass AB 124 in 2021, and continued the work in  2022 to help implement the new law through stakeholder trainings and  providing case consultations to attorneys working with survivors.

While  AB 124 accomplished major improvements to California’s criminal laws  impacting survivors of violence and trauma, many survivors were left out  of the final bill.

Free to Thrive's  Work Continues: Assembly Bill 1497

During  the current 2023-2024 California legislative cycle, the Coalition has  expanded even further and continues to pursue justice for victims and  survivors through a new bill AB 1497 (Haney).  This proposed law ensures that criminalized victims of violence and  trauma – disproportionately represented in the criminal legal system by  Black and brown women, youth, queer, or transgender victims – have  equitable access to legal protections that open up pathways to healing  and a fresh start for them and their families.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT AB1497!
